You know it’s been a momentous session when the successful completion of a months-long op is the least interesting thing that happens. In other news, revelations! Twists! Meta-knowledge that can finally be brought in game! And just in time, too, as we prepare for a month-long hiatus before next game.

A small side-issue wound up taking the entire night to complete, much to the consternation of Georges the GM. On the other hand, we have all our crates back and are pretty sure we’re once more in the targeting hairs of the SRID. Again.

Koreshi Chronicles - Chapter VIII: Behind the Facade
5 Autumn, 1927
Lyta sat on her Gear’s massive foot and traced the rivets with her fingertips. Fennec had gone off to see to the backpacks they would need to transport Hippolyte’s cargo, and Lukas and Torgath had each gone off to their own private conversations, leaving her alone to check on the Gears. She’d verified that everything was in order, that nothing had been tampered with, and that they would be ready for their nighttime trek in a day or two.
It hadn’t taken long. Certainly it had taken less time than everyone’s conversations.
Lyta watched the comings and goings in the hangar. The sounds of metal-on-metal and metal-on-concrete rang out in the echoing chamber. Lyta tapped her foot.
Abruptly, she stood up. “Fuck it,” she muttered, “we were gonna take ‘em out soon anyway.”

Koreshi Chronicles - Chapter VIII: Knowing What You Want
5 Autumn, 1927
She was a sight to behold.
He was a skilled operator himself but sat in quiet admiration as she ducked and weaved her way through the field. She displayed both raw talent and trained skill. He took immeasurable satisfaction in watching her approach a roadblock and, far from being dissuaded or even slowed down, turn that challenge into a means of propelling herself forward and achieving her ultimate goal. She moved back and forth with such grace and beauty that she made it all look effortless.

When two options for reaching your objective loom before you, one simple and uncomplicated, one involving a low-flying dirigible, which one would you choose? This was the choice before Our Heroes (tm) this week.

Koreshi Chronicles - Chapter VIII: No More Pain
“Prophet’s piss, Shelly! What’ve I told you about floaters before I’ve had my second coffee?”
Shelly’s lips curled briefly into a smile somewhere under the cover of his mustache before running his tongue over his teeth and making that sound Lenny knew meant this was more than just another decomposing body in the lake.
“You’re just determined to make me regret getting out of bed this morning, aren’t you? Who is it?”
Shelly turned the body over wordlessly and Lenny let out a sigh. His hands were bound but there were no ligature marks around the wrists so he hadn’t been tied up long.
“Looks like somebody wanted a few words with old Pascal here,” Shelly offered helpfully.

In last night’s session, “Operation: Deliver the shipping crates to Port Arthur” was temporarily put on hold in favor of the more pressing mission, “Operation: Take out Mark Kim before he does the same to us.” Well, eventually. We’ll get to it sooner or later.

Koreshi Chronicles - Chapter VIII: 'Kids These Days'
Lyta gave Ennik a nudge. Well, more than a nudge, a sharp jab in the ribs. ‘I ain’t forgiven you yet,’ she had told him the day before, or was it the same day? Ennik didn’t know anymore.
The Longrunners they‘d met up with on 25.SU.27 were trundling along at their slow and steady pace towards the Prince-Point Pass. Ennik has just mentioned in passing he probably knew of some food caches that were left over from the war that the partisans had used. Rations didn’t go bad, they just were bad. Surprisingly, Todd had suggested they head back over the Colden Pass and try and deliver these foodstuffs to the rovers they had come across a couple days before.

Koreshi Chronicles - Chapter VIII: There’s Something That I Know...
23 Summer 1927
Lyta huddled under layers of blankets, as bundled as Todd sometimes was in his pillow forts. Her breath steamed in the cold mountain air. Her hands wrapped protectively around a thermos of cawfee that Ennik had brewed. It was late, but her eyes had adjusted to the dark, and she still had several hours before Fennec relieved her for the next watch.
She was exhausted but happy. Her muscles ached from climbing and carrying, shimmying her way up huge pylons and coaxing the disused machinery within to working order. She felt useful. It was the first time she’d felt that way in a while, she realized.

Koreshi Chronicles - Chapter VIII: What Any Of Us Want
A chill woke him from the darkness and he opened his eyes to the light. The wind was picking up as Helios dipped to the horizon. He rolled over to take in the gently swaying grasses rustling against a backdrop of ochre, bleeding into cobalt and then dark ultramarine. After a while he lay flat on his back again. He watched the first stars above, enjoying the moment, relishing it like only a freed man could.

A session in which Our Heroes (tm) decided not to kill anyone! On purpose! Yes, as we inch our way slowly towards Port Arthur with our six crates of weapons, sometimes it’s good to remember that letting people go is only the right decision until they turn around and stab you in the back…

Koreshi Chronicles - Chapter VIII: Character Traits
“It's hard being a son of a bitch. But it's harder still to be a nice guy. Better not to care, better to mind your own damned business and stay out of the way of others and make damned sure they stay outta yours. That's the world we live in, that's the world the Earth made when they abandoned Terra Nova, that's the reality set in by the bickering city-states and warring polar forces. Being stubborn, unwelcoming, and generally unpleasant is how the Badlands have stayed in the hands of regular folk. Folk who have, by circumstances and by choice, become tough sons of bitches.

Koreshi Chronicles - Chapter VIII: Promises
35.Sp.16, Baja
He was in a semi-conscious state: like sleeping in and knowing that a new day lies ahead, that the sun wants to pry your eyelids open but you linger in a half-doze. All he wanted to do was sleep and rest a little more, like he used to. He could snuggle with his wife and share a moment of peace and intimacy before the rays of Helios came crashing in, or worse, Lyta and Lukas.

Koreshi Chronicles - Chapter VIII: Going Home
“Well, that was exciting,” Riley said laconically.
Lukas, Lyta, and Todd were tightly squeezed into the sub, still panting from their recent exertion. An hour before they had been leaping off the docks of the secure export/import zone for New Baja. As luck would have it, “The Pain’s” people had drawn the attention of the security forces, allowing them to perform their slow getaway on the barge Fennec had stolen.
Once out on the lake, it was time to take their haul below the dark watery surface. To this end, Riley poked a hole in the barge with the vibroblade of his Wasser-Jager. What ensued was a rushed, almost comical donning of wetsuits as the 5-metre-high geyser of water started sinking the boat much faster than had been expected.

Operation: Counter-Ambush the SRID had… mixed results. While the mission objectives were to incapacitate but not kill all four SRID team members, instead we found up with two dead and two escaped. Oh, and it seems like our old antagonist The Bear has picked up our trail again. Just because we didn’t have enough problems already.

Koreshi Chronicles - Chapter VII: Unbalanced
Lyta leapt from rooftop to rooftop, along the walls of the enclosed caverns of New Baja. Layers of anger washed over her as she rolled and tumbled, her mind as tumultuous as her body. First, she was pissed that she wouldn’t get to go to Junira Loresh in time to run the B’Ti. For the first time since her days with the Bathani Ratir, she had been training – really training – and no one would be able to see the results of her work.
Second, she was pissed that she had come so close to home, only to realize it wasn’t her home any more. Gone were the oasis towers of her youth, the neighborhoods where she had played as a child, the familiar skyline she had been too young to see as a vast expanse for her to explore. New Baja was not her city. The ever-present water threatened to drown her, and the cavern roof threatened to bury her. Baja was no longer her home, she was forced to accept. Nowhere was home.
Finally, and most upsetting, she was pissed that Lukas had lied to her. Oh, he withheld information from her on a regular basis: details about their employers or the specifics of jobs, dealings with Nicosa Renault, and any number of tiny details that he deemed unimportant for her to know. Lyta didn’t mind that. She didn’t want to deal with the minutiae of their contacts anyway. If Lukas wanted to take charge and only tell her what she needed to know to get the job done, that was fine with her.
This, though… This was different. It was the first time she could remember that Lukas had hid a part of himself from her. He’d changed his face, and he hadn’t told her. Hadn’t even been planning on telling her. If it hadn’t been for the Humanist prison intake, he might never have told her. He would have let her live in a lie for the rest of their lives. If anything, the only thing he seemed sorry about was that she and Todd had found out.

Koreshi Chronicles - Chapter VII : Useful Deviants
“What’s the matter?” she asked coolly.
Okran wasn't pleased and he didn't feel like explaining what should have been self-evident to his handler of all people. He had been told he would have cycles to build trust with Quinn or Mr. Lassander, whatever his name was.
He was supposed to be enlisting a partner for Operation Longnight, now he was saddled with a coerced asset. One of the reasons she had picked him to coordinate this part of the operation was his ability to understand the mind of ‘useful deviants’ and he was quite sure he knew how Quinn felt about this: this was man who didn't like being threatened.

Koreshi Chronicles - Chapter VII: The Annunciation
“You gave us a scare,” Nadya said with a deep sigh once the others had left.
“I gave myself one,” Ti said lightly, dropping heavily into a chair.
Ti had called his Kin together from around Terra Nova using long-dormant protocols. Each arrived without the knowledge of who had called them, jeopardizing their covers, but Ti felt he owed it to them to see them face to face. As risky as it might have been for most of his Kin to be in one place at one time, it was also the most expedient way to get back to normal business after his long absence.
“I’m sorry,” he said more earnestly when he looked at her troubled face. “I wish I could have told you earlier I was all right.”
“I know,” she said bitterly.

Chapter 3: The Raid
"Okay. Team, listen up. I have just accepted a mission from the Northern military. Seems that they found this outpost at this particular spot eavesdropping one too many times on their classified stuff. So they want us to do their dirty job of destroying it for them. I plan to move to point alpha and then to point bravo. Why the long way? Like I said earlier, the listening post got super big eyes and ears for eavesdropping. If we move straight to point bravo. We risked getting detected by the enemy." Lips explained over the comms system.

Chapter 2: A Deal
The Northern Intelligence officer looked immaculate in his uniform. Medals adorn his left chest of his pressed suit. To a hardened veteran like Lips, he has seen too much of such a character: A table top commander, no doubt about it. From the his smooth, white skin to his hardly callused hand, the officer tried his best to maintain an air of command while Galahad Lips sized him up, he spoke in a dignified but trembling voice: "Mr. Lips, the reason I am here is that the CNCS military two weeks ago discovered a Southern Surveillance outpost in the vicinity of your area. The outpost holds sophisticated, state of the art surveillance equipment capable of intercepting and decoding classified signals belonging to the CNCS. That outpost..."

Chapter 1: Exercise
"Galahad Lips! For the umpteenth time, I must tell you. Would you mind not making some modification to you strider?" MacDonald Devin screamed at the two huge size 13 boots under the Fire Dragon strider. "Hey! Deafy! Do you hear me?" MacDonald Devin was the mercenary team, Jolly Rogers’ chief mechanic. ‘Mac’ or ‘Dev’ as he known as to the techs and the ‘Rogers. "Mac, I just making repairs that’s all ! Look, her mortar went haywire yesterday. Instead of pointing to the sky, those useless shafts twiddled like a cockroach’s feelers! That’s not all only. My HUD would just go blank in the heat of combat!" Lips explained as he crawled his way out the strider’s undercarriage. "Aha! So it’s payback time now, eh? Trust you to cramp so much systems into it." Mac gloated.

She was the kind of woman that would "look good wearing a burlap sack", the locals would say; even in her dirty overalls she cut a striking figure. She stood upon the shoulder of her Warrior, looking through battered field glasses at a deserted town, that in the Badland heat shimmered like an ocean.

Koreshi Chronicles - Chapter VII: Many Happy Returns
18 Summer, 1914
Gropius, Humanist Alliance
The air practically thrummed with excitement. There were only a few days left before the games would be over and the athletes and spectators would return to their home nations for another four cycles. The Olympics had been everything Lyta could have hoped for. Watching the competitions in person had been even more amazing than watching them on the trideos. She had insisted that they go to every gymnastics event being held, though Donovar coaxed her to branch out at least a little, so they had also attended cycling, wrestling, and fencing competitions, among others. Every day, Donovar was forced to drag his daughter out of the Olympic complex, and that was only after every event was over.

There was a knock at the door, but it was too late for housekeeping, and Lukas never arranged meetings for an operational site.

They looked at each other and then back to him, shaking their heads.
And the op had gone so well.

Koreshi Chronicles - Chapter VII: The Ghost and The Machine
Lorelei Nanda made no effort to separate work from personal life. In fact, she didn’t understand the notion of keeping them separate. To her, life was work and her work ensured life in the Alliance. She was born to her role, groomed for it, and as far as she was concerned, her sole reason for being was to contribute whatever she might to the greater good and Gropius’ vision.

Koreshi Chronicles - Chapter VII: Speaking Out Of Turn
“We've got to stop meaning like this.” The Doc gave her one of his typical grins as she opened her eyes. He was looking over her bandages and putting a mild sedative into her plasma drip, watching life flow back into her, drop by drop. “Seriously, Lyta, have you given any thought to... never mind.”
“Thought to what?” she asked, her voice clearer than he would have expected.
“This, all this.” With a wave of the hand he took in the cramped longrunner, the cot, and the IVs running into her arm. “And, of course, this,” he concluded, pointing to her wound.
Lyta grimaced. “Didn't we just make you a lot of money? You're in a weird place to be complaining.”
The Doc smiled. He really did like her. “Don't misunderstand. I enjoy making my blood money. I just prefer to make it on the blood of people I don't care as much about.”

Koreshi Chronicles – Chapter VII: Releasing the Tension
42 Spring, 1927
“Have you thought about giving it up?” he’d asked her. “You’re not responsible for their follies.”
She couldn’t remember the exact words, but that had been the gist of it. Asking her, entreating her to leave her brothers and the mercenary life they had built for themselves. Lyta wondered now whether the Doc had known, half a season ago, that this would happen, or whether he was just being generally protective of her. She supposed it didn’t matter. She wasn’t going to leave her brothers, not even if it sent her to jail. Not that she had much choice about it now.

Koreshi Chronicles - Chapter VII: Intake
41 Spring, 1927
Lyta shifted slightly, centering her weight on the balls of her feet as Lukas stepped aside and Detective Gorash walked in. Her eyes scanned the room a split-second before his did, checking for incriminating evidence. At least on the face of it there wasn’t much, not unless littering indoors was considered an arrestable offense in the Humanist Alliance. Gabriel and Mads had crashed after their 70-hour rush to prepare the hardware for the TDI job, but operational protocols hadn't been too heavily compromised. Before resting, they had still managed to get rid of the spare parts that hadn't been used in the device’s assembly and the leftovers from Fennec's drone surgery. The white board had been wiped down, the papers disposed of or at least hidden away.
For a moment, no one moved. All eyes were on the detective, some wary, some suspicious, none friendly.

Koreshi Chronicles - Chapter VII: Remembrance
29 Spring, 1927
Lyta hated Jan Mayen and everything it stood for. If she’d been given the choice, she would have gotten off the caravan the second she was well enough to stagger her way back towards the Alliance and its world-class hospitals. If she’d been given the choice, she never would have stepped foot within a hundred kilometers of the new GREL enclave. But no one had given her the choice, and now there was nothing she could do about it.
Lukas, Radsley, and Dr. Chambers were meeting with Col. Baakov, Todd was in consultation with Isabella Demosa, and Fennec had gone off in search of parts. Lyta barely knew any of the caravanners. She would just need to do what needed to be done by herself. It would just be an hour or two. She squared her shoulders and exhaled slowly. She would be fine.

Koreshi Chronicles - Chapter VII: End of the Line
36 Spring, 1927
They held hands as they hurried down the Oxford streets, looking for all the world like two sisters on a late-afternoon stroll. Lyta had become practiced at watching her periphery without obviously scanning the surroundings, and every sense was on high alert. Miranda, to her credit, had not protested when Lyta led her away from the delicatessen in the opposite direction from their apartment. She walked in silence, her free hand clenched in a fist, the bagels forgotten.

Koreshi Chronicles - Chapter VII: Aftermath
Okran entered the cafe, his barrel chest squeezing by the young woman sweeping up some debris from the renovations taking place on the storefront.
He walked in and found Lorelei immediately in the nearly empty establishment. He sat down and gave her a wink.
"I see your wounds have done nothing to dampen your spirits," she said, a little more peevishly than usual, he thought.
"Ah, well, I ain't wounded anymore, love. I've just got a few new scars."
"I always thought you had too many to start with."
"Really? I’d reckoned you fancied my scars," he joked, but she didn't seem in the mood to reminisce.

Wordslingin'
The aftermath of the not-as-good-as-anticipated job! I think we blindsided Georges the GM twice in one session, which must be some sort of record.
