Thirty minutes into flight the cacophony of the storm had abated. “We’re through the worst of it,” Diego called back from the cockpit as the turbulence and wind gave way to the more familiar and reassuring sound of the hopper’s twin thrusters. “I’m going to set her down to check that the fuel lines aren’t too iced over before we continue on to Djakarta Point.”

Koreshi Chronicles - Chapter IX: The Prodigal Son

Kim’s gear sent out the coded signal which opened the hatch. It was a modest aperture, large enough to admit his gear, but just barely. Inside the Creighton auxiliary station he exited his armoured shell and made his way to the inner door; it hissed like an unfriendly pet as the pressure equalized and his ears popped. Kim was a hardened soldier, a member of the South’s most elite forces even before he was enhanced. Nature and experience had made him master of his fear, Dr. Bearden’s unnatural experiments had made him fearless, and yet he felt trepidation entering his creator’s lair.

It was a harrowing escape. They decided to torch the van because DNA bombs are expensive and stolen vans are cheap. There weren’t too many quips during the ride. Back at the safe house, crammed with equipment and  bodies, they sorted gear, cleaned clothing, showered and patched up the wounded.
