The Lucky Shot Casino

Built between 1920-22, The Lucky Shot was one of the new oasis towers that went up with the explosion of the Kayr ad-Din Dueling circuit onto the global scene via the Hermes network. It was funded by the Badlands Caravan Guild, the Forzi and Granis Cartels and Spider Jahmoon.

Dick-Ache and Letty, three cycles earlier:

It's gettin late in the night, and the only ones left at the poker table are other sharks like us. Billie's probably doing dirty dirty things with the bouncer, after gettin herself kicked out earlier for fightin -- I ain't seen him back since he escorted her out. And Twister left to do god knows what. Ride along a mountain ridge in the moonlight while chewin tabaccy and hummin' a ditty? It's hard to tell with him.

Putting PR back together

Vemeer,

I have given great thought to your request and have decided you deserve the promotion you asked for.

The Shadow and the Show

Jimmy Croydon was a man no one forgot. He was all teeth and sparkling eyes. His red hair was a tussle so perfectly balanced between dishevelled and distinguishing that you didn’t know if Jimmy woke up looking that good or had to put in a hard day’s work getting it just right. His smile came as easy as sleep at noon, so easily that the first time you met him you were sure you two was best friends.

"Dick, you serious?" the pretty young woman in desert clothes looked at her companion in astonishment. This was rich, even for him.

"Letty, I mean to walk into this here bar," Richard "Dick Ache" Stevens stood on the boardwalk in front of a saloon marked "SAL ON" and gesticulated to the bat-wing doors, "I mean to get shot down by every woman in the bar not once, but twice..."

Letty raised her eyebrow. It was already evening, and there was only so much time.

War Wounds

The Badlands Caravan Guild lot was bustling with activity as Helios began its slow descent from the sky. The dawgs and the daks crawled out of their hiding places, shelter from the noonday sun. A stripped-down Hunter was building a new junk pile, and a solitary truck trundled towards the lot's gate, kicking up dust behind it.

Inside, an impromptu meeting was taking place.

Cover Up

Grant Sinclair's eyes widened when he saw where he was. He struggled against the wrist-ties and yelled into the gag in his mouth. His nostrils took in as much air as they could, but that only made him ill from the noxious fumes emanating from the Gallows Pool.

Trauma

She woke in a cold sweat, the walls of her small room entirely too close, the air too stifling. Her guts churned and she bolted for the toilet. Wretching did little to ease the stress. Josephina looked at herself in the mirror, hunched over the sink. Her eyes were sunken, her skin was pasty.
