Wordslingin'

This week, Our Heroes (tm) established that sometimes there’s nothing for a bad situation except to grit your teeth, bear it, and beat some people up in a bar.

[We discuss the recent revelation that Lyta and Lukas have Sand Rider DNA.]
Georges the GM: “Your memory and Lyta’s sense of touch are a nod to your superior genetics.”
Brock: “Ah-ha! Just what Lukas needs! More evidence of his superiority!”
Zac: “As though anything will change…”

[There have been many revelations of late.]
Brock: “The player thinks the characters should have a team meeting. The character does not.”

[We prepare for the next stage of our HIRA op.]
Georges the GM: “You guys are hoping to finally put this mission to bed.”
Brock: “Though we have no reason to hope that.”

[Georges the GM expresses that there may be some uncomfortable conversation on the maglev down to Siwa Oasis.]
Brock: “I’m not uncomfortable.”
Ariel: “Is that because you discovered you’re genetically superior?”

[There is, indeed, some conversation on the maglev.]
Fennec: “Have you given thought to any alternatives?”
Lukas: “Yeah. And I’ve determined there are none.”

[Fennec proposes that sooner or later we should stop working for HIRA.]
Lukas: “Are you willing to pay that price?”
Torgath: “What price?”
Lukas: “The price of not cooperating with HIRA.”

[Lukas lays out the way his thoughts have been going.]
Lukas: “The best-case scenario is that the SRID identifies these people and takes them out, and they stop contacting us. That’s the best-case scenario.”

[More on the HIRA situation. Conversation becomes somewhat more uncomfortable.]
Fennec: “I just don’t like the idea of this hanging over our heads.”
Lukas: “Well, thank you for sharing.”

[We discuss some exit strategies.]
Lukas: (to Fennec) “You could probably get out. Of all of us, you’re the least useful.”

[More about HIRA and the way our relationship with them is likely to end.]
Fennec: “If they’re going to kill us now or later, it doesn’t make a difference.”
Lukas: “Later is better.”

[The conversation has gone on for a while.]
Fennec: “I’m getting tired of this!”
Ariel: “In game or out of game?”
Zac: “Both! This is all the meta!”

[We ultimately arrive at Siwa Oasis.]
Okran Radsley: “Hi, friends. You’re looking worse for wear.”
PCs: *stony silence*
Okran Radsley: “Anyone want a beer?”

[Our reunion with Radsley gets off to a shaky start.]
Okran Radsley: “I get the sense that there’s some malaise…”
Lukas: “Anger, resentment…”
Torgath: “I don’t see why there’s any need for resentment. You just got us to do the dirty work of an evil government organization that doesn’t want to get its hands dirty so you’re using us as expendable, disposable resources. No need for resentment.”

[A bit shocked by Torgath’s outburst, Lukas and Radsley go off to speak amongst themselves while the rest of the team is sent to their hotel room without any supper.]
Lyta; “C’mon, let’s go think some quiet thoughts.”
Lukas: “Quietly.”

[Lukas and Radsley have private conversation without the rest of the team.]
Okran Radsley: “I’ve always found you… professional. Professional is good. Professional keeps you alive. Back in there, that was not professional.”

[More conversation.]
Okran Radsley: “Do you have your team under control?”
Lukas: “…”
Okran Radsley: “That’s an awkwardly long pause.”

[Radsley and Lukas open a bank account for Corner Coffee, the PCs' front business.]
Brock: “Is there a statement? Is there money in the account?”
Georges the GM: “There is a statement. The account is empty.”
Lukas: “That’s not how I wanted to leave the bank.”

[Radsley discusses how he thought the relationship with the team would go.]
Okran Radsley: “I can tell you the original plan was for you not to know anything, and for you to live a happy, prosperous, lucrative life.”

[Discussion proceeds to the current situation and future plans.]
Okran Radsley: “We can not speak about it. We can cover it up with lots of cash and pretend it doesn’t exist.”
Lukas: “That’s what I like. Tell me about the money.”

[There is, obviously, a rather large elephant in the room.]
Lukas: “How can I believe you? You’re them. We can’t trust you, and any assurances you give us are worthless.”
Okran Radsley: “Well, then. That’s a good basis for a working relationship where we’re diving into peril.”

[Of course, there really aren’t any other alternatives when working for a shadowy government organization that is perfectly prepared to kill your nearest and dearest if you don’t cooperate.]
Lukas: “I am prepared to act as though we believe retirement is a possibility.”

[Meanwhile, back in the hotel room.]
Brock: “I’m imagining you three sitting in silence around a coffee table. It warms the cockles of my heart.”

[Actually back at the hotel, there is some conversation going on.]
Lyta: “If Jax wanted to kill you, he would be more likely to shoot you.”
Fennec: “Probably over coffee, between the eyes.”
Brock: “If I ever come to kill you, you’ll be asleep, probably drunk, and preferably restrained.”

[Lukas returns to the hotel. Torgath is his usual self.]
Lukas: “Todd, you wanna explain that little outburst?”
Torgath: “What outburst?”
Lukas: “Why would you say anything that could lead to saying anything in the Southern Republic?”
Torgath: “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

[Lukas lays out the short version of the conversation with Radsley.]
Lukas: “We’re a valuable asset, or at least he wants us to feel like we’re a valuable asset.”

[More of the same.]
Lukas: “He very much wants us to believe we can get out of this situation.”
Lyta: “You think that’s true?”
Lukas: “No.”

[Later that evening, Radsley brings us to the Wet Dog bar to meet a contact.]
Okran Radsley: “This place is a bit rough.”
Lyta: *smiles*

[We enter the building that houses the Wet Dog.]
Georges the GM: “You go down four storeys until the walls are leaking, you assume from the river.”
Brock: “We hope.”

[We meet Radsley’s contact.]
Georges the GM: “She’s in her mid-fifties. She’s got a scar across her eye.”
Julie: “Hive of scum and villainy.”
Zac: “Her name is Hanna Solo.”

[Having now met our contact in the seedy bar…]
Georges the GM: “At this point is the inevitable someone coming up and saying, ‘I don’t like your face.’”

[More of the same.]
Georges the GM: “Someone says something rude to you in Universal French.”
Brock: “I say ‘pamplemousse’ with my most disarming smile.”
Mook: “What did you call me?!”

[Georges the GM really wants for there to be combat.]
Georges the GM: “Let’s scale this up. He pulls out a knife.”
Ariel: “Lukas pulls out a gun.”
Georges the GM: “He pulls out a bazooka.”

[Combat looks about to ensue.]
Georges the GM: “Radsley turns to you and says…”
Ariel: “’Boring conversation anyway’?”

[Radsley has pinned the mook’s knife-hand to the table. His friends from a few tables away are making their way toward us.]
Okran Radsley: “Do you want to do this, or not?”
Brock: “I respond by double-punching the guy in the face.”

[We look for fighting aids.]
Zac: “So there’s nothing but plastic cups and a plastic pitcher to throw at them? They plan well here.”
Brock: “It’s not their first bar fight.”

[Just because the tools aren’t ideal doesn’t mean you shouldn’t use them.]
Brock: “Grab the pitcher.”
Zac: “It’s plastic.”
Brock: “Yeah, and?”

[There’s a pit fighting arena at the bottom of the bar. Lukas throws one of the mooks into it through the surrounding cage of chicken wire.]
Brock: “If this was my bar, the chicken wire would be electrified for extra excitement.”

[Combat continues to ensue.]
Georges the GM: “The guy grabs a chair and attacks Radsley.”
Julie: “Wow, is he stupid, or what?”

[Torgath knows when to make his move.]
Ariel: “So this guy is wounded, took two actions, and I’m hitting him from behind.”

[The fight has gone considerably in the PCs’ favor until there is only one guy left, whom Torgath has hit from behind.]
Georges the GM: “He seems to catch himself, looks at you five all functional, and lets himself fall.”
